Skin Concepts and Submissions
It seems I'm a sucker for Awesomenauts community contests. This time around, the goal is to create an appealing alternate skin/outfit for up to three characters. Silhouettes on the side indicate changes to skill effects used within the game. I tried to stay somewhat relevant to the original characters concepts with my designs. I'll show you what I mean.

Yuri - Crazed space monkey experiment turned ghost buster parody (Phantom Fragger)
As of posting this, finalists are being chosen for voting in the near future. There are a lot of talented artists involved this time around. Here's hoping!

Admiral Swiggins
Hey, look, more video game stuff. This is my first entry in the character design contest for Awesomenauts. It seems like the devs are looking for more abstract stuff, so I plan on making a few more designs before it is over. I had a lot of fun working on this one though and I only spent a few hours on it, so I figured I would share.
Fluff Bug Creature
Found some time to work on my bee/humming bird/moth creature. I'm basically done with this, not 100% on the fluff, but it's on it's way. When I am not working on anything else I'll continue to post these. They're fun to do and great practice. Thanks for looking.
Speed(ish) Painting of David Gold
I found this from not too long ago. I tried to get a quick likeness of one of my favorite musicians. Although, I'll be the first to tell you I am not the fastest painter around.
If you haven't heard of them, check out Woods of Ypres. David passed away early last winter in an automobile accident. However, in a Nostradamic manner, he left behind a collection of work heavily themed around the concept of what death is, the urgency of loving those around you and cherishing life for what it is, regardless of how you interpret it. He was a man with a kind heart and an epic beard.
In Progress
Still working on this one, but I think its coming along pretty well. The hands and suit need work, but with those done and some overall sharpening we should be set!
I'm Still Alive
Back around early January, I started having some major computer related issues and I have been out of commission for quite some time. This caused me to go into a pretty bad slump. I started doubting myself, wondering why I was doing art and if I even should anymore.
Some pretty important people in my life (you know who you are) helped me back on my feet and rekindled the fire, and for that I cannot thank you enough. I now have a new rig and a new enthusiasm towards my work.
While I've been gone, I set a goal for myself. A challenge, sketch one monster per day for fifty days. I'm ready to share them and they should be popping up here on a much more regular basis. This is the first one from my sketchbook. More to come!
Pharaoh Hound
It's about time for a long overdue post. This is a recent commission I worked on and I'm happy with how it turned out. This dog won Westminster multiple times and, unfortunately, recently passed away. His owner misses him dearly and I hope this can bring the good doctor some amount of solace.
On a side note, my friend, Joanna, made a post not too long ago about how difficult it can be to scrap what you're working on and start over to create a more successful piece. All I can say is that it was perfect timing because the painting below was just not working out. Occasionally it's important to fall, so you can learn what not to do next time.
Eagles Are Cool
At the end of this week, my mother is holding a fundraiser for her non-profit organization TruJoy. Our goal is to help support the women and families of the capital region who have been affected by breast and/or ovarian cancer. The main attraction is a motorcycle group ride for those who sign up along with food, a bake sale, raffles and a silent auction. I will be submitting this painting to the silent auction.
My usual value study and two color variants. I love the bright yellows in the first one but they seem a bit too intense and clash with the eagle. After I clean up some areas, I'll try to add a hint of them in the second version and see how it looks.

Cliche? Yes.
Good practice from some old reference? You bet.
I will probably smooth this out and add some hints of color in the next couple days.
Soccer Jersey
I wanted to try something different with this one and decided to start out in black and white. It felt liberating to be able to focus on values without the distraction of color balance, so I may continue this in the future.
It felt like the grayscale version was too dark, so I played around with the levels in photoshop and then added color.
Finally, I painted in some more details, developed more color, and added the logo.
Lava Flows
As of late I have been inspired to work on landscapes. While doing so, I am trying to improve my environments and hopefully make them more interesting. They really are a great source of practice for depth, color, texture, and composition. While looking for inspiration I found some really crazy stuff, finding beauty even in some of the most barren places on earth. This planet truly is amazing and is all too often taken for granted.
